The severe pain in the woman’s leg was caused by 20 long blood clots that appeared in the veins after a cesarean section. This was reported by daily mail.
Starla Ellis, 30, from Ohio, USA, gave birth to a large baby weighing about 5 kg. She had an emergency cesarean section when the baby got stuck in the birth canal. After discharge, the woman experienced severe pain in her lower back, which later spread to her abdomen and right leg. She chalked it up to postpartum discomfort, but went to the hospital when the pain became unbearable. There she was given medication to treat blood clots and sent home. Soon the pain intensified and the leg stopped bending.
Two days later, at another clinic the woman went to, an ultrasound examination of her veins was performed. Doctors discovered 20 blood clots in the patient’s legs. They were removed by surgeons who showed the patient photographs of the clots. To his shock, the first hospital sent him home with a life-threatening condition. The woman insisted that if you have any doubts about the doctor’s decision, you should get a second opinion.
Doctors treating her believe the blood clots in the woman’s veins may have been caused by complications from a caesarean section. In addition, pregnancy itself increases the pressure in the veins of the legs and pelvis, causing blood clots to form.
