Doctors at the Saratov Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital removed a large ovarian tumor from an 8-year-old girl. This has been reported Telegram channel of the State Health Institution “SODKB”.
The parents of an 8-year-old girl applied to the hospital with a complaint of enlargement in the abdominal area. She had no pain, and during the examination, it was determined that the patient had a large mass in her ovaries, more than 10 cm in length. The tumor turned out to be a teratoma, a formation that develops from embryonic cells and can include bone, hair, muscle, nerve and other cells. It was removed and the operation was successful.
As noted by Zauresh Mambetova, head of the gynecology department, teratoma is rarely found in young schoolchildren. The reasons for its occurrence are not fully understood, and in order not to miss a tumor, the child must regularly see a doctor and undergo an ultrasound scan every year.
