The Ministry said that on April 10, the competent authorities of the United States sent an official LOA offer and acceptance letter (Letter of Offer and Acceptance) to the General Directorate of Defense Armaments and Investments (GDAEE) of the Ministry of National Defense. It’s about the supply of F-35 fighter jets to Greece.
It is stated that Greece plans to purchase up to 40 aircraft.
US State Department in January approved Sale of F-35 fighter jets and necessary equipment to Greece. In total, Athens has requested from Washington up to 40 fifth-generation vehicles (fighter jets, engines, communications equipment, logistics, training and support systems, and spare parts).
In February of this year, White House Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby statedIt was stated that the USA cannot provide fifth generation F-35 warplanes to Turkey because Ankara has Russian S-300 and S-400 air defense systems.
