Non-performing loans of credit institutions fell below 4.2% in April

Thus, the bad debt ratio continued to decline in April and has decreased to the minimum level since January 2009, when the ratio was 3.89%.

Loans extended to the sector increased by 0.65% compared to March and reached EUR 1,221 billion in April, while the total volume of doubtful loans decreased by 0.55% to EUR 51,201 million. Compared to April 2021, total credit increased by 0.61% and doubtful balance decreased by 6.89%.

The figures include the methodological change in the classification of Financial Credit Institutions (EFC), which has ceased to be considered in the category of credit institutions since January 2014. Excluding the change, the default will remain at 4.30% as the loan balance was €1,190 billion in April excluding the EFC loan.

Data disaggregated by institution type shows the dubious proportion of all depository institutions (banks, savings banks and cooperatives). It closed April at 4.09% compared to 4.15% in March and 4.46% a year earlier.

On the other hand, the default rate of financial credit institutions stood at 7.12% in the fourth month of the year, compared to 7.12% in March and 6.82% in April 2021.
