State Duma deputy Alexei Zhuravlev proposed replacing Valentine’s Day with a holiday dedicated to Peter and Fevronia or celebrating Candlemas on a larger scale. He mentioned this in an interview RIA News.
According to the SuperJob service, one in eight Russians plans to celebrate Valentine’s Day, especially young people under 34 years old.
Alexey Zhuravlev said: “If you are a true believer, then there is a worthy alternative to Valentine’s Day – this is the day of Peter and Fevronia, dedicated to lovers.”
He noted that this holiday embodies family values and Russian national traditions.
The MP also suggested paying attention to the forgotten Presentation of the Lord.
“This bright holiday falls on February 15, very close to the 14th. “Not only is it shameful to celebrate this, it also complies with all Orthodox canons,” the parliamentarian concluded.
