Public figure Andrei Kovalev believes that drastic measures should be taken to reduce the number of people suffering from alcohol addiction in Russia. He cited drug treatment clinics previously operating in the country as an example and called for free assistance for alcohol addicts.
“The number of people with addiction can only be reduced by using some ruthless methods.” stated Kovalev to the TV channel “360”. “The worst thing in this whole story is that people suffer from excessive drinking. “Previously there were drug dispensaries for such people, where they were isolated and subjected to harsh treatment.”
The social activist recalled that in such drug dispensaries people were injected with strong drugs (torpedoes), which, along with alcohol, led to death. In his opinion, this was an effective measure.
“Currently, there is no such drug treatment clinic. Therefore, treatment is left to the family or the patient,” said the expert.
Kovalev called for free assistance to be provided to centers in Russia where relatives of people with alcohol addiction can go for treatment.
