Red caviar is a source of complete protein that is easily absorbed by the body. It also contains many polyunsaturated fatty acids that are good for the heart and blood vessels. However, doctors recommend limiting red caviar consumption to 20-25 grams per day. This is what the gastroenterologist and nutritionist at SM-Clinic Anastasia Chizhikova told socialbites.ca.
There are several reasons for this.
“Red caviar is a high-calorie product. Excessive consumption of red caviar can cause weight gain. Red caviar also contains a large amount of salt: 100 grams contains about 3 grams of salt. Consuming large amounts of salt can cause high blood pressure and other health problems,” the doctor explained.
Additionally, red caviar may cause allergic reactions in some people.
“Sandwiches with red caviar and butter have long become a popular appetizer on the holiday table. However, they are not recommended to be consumed in large quantities because they contain too many calories. To make them healthier, you can use whole grain bread instead of white bread and use avocado instead of butter. During the holiday season, many people tend to overeat, which can negatively affect their health. High-calorie foods may be present on the holiday table. For example, a sandwich with red caviar contains about 280 calories, a serving of Olivier salad – about 300 calories, and a serving of meat stewed with cheese and mayonnaise – about 450 calories. If you eat five caviar sandwiches, two portions of Olivier salad and one portion of meat, the total calorie content of the dish will be approximately 3,000 calories. Such abundant food can cause a feeling of heaviness in the stomach, heartburn, nausea and other unpleasant symptoms.
The recommended amount of caviar (remember 20-25 g) can be eaten at once, but it is better to divide it into several meals. For example, you can eat 10 grams of caviar for breakfast and 10 grams of caviar for dinner,” the doctor advised.
In addition, excessive consumption of red caviar can lead to consequences such as nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, heartburn, swelling and allergic reactions.
“Eat caviar slowly and chew each piece thoroughly. Take breaks between meals. “Do not eat caviar on an empty stomach and do not eat caviar with other fatty foods,” the doctor concluded.
