Ivan Sorokin, the owner of the Smile Fish chain of home kindergartens, in an interview with socialbites.ca called out the behavior of police officers who came to check a kindergarten in the north of Moscow due to a complaint about the alleged illegal detention of children arbitrarily took students to the section. According to Sorokin, the children’s parents plan to file a collective complaint with the prosecutor’s office and the Investigative Committee.
“We have 117 gardens in our network. The kindergarten on Voikovskaya in Moscow has only been open for a month and a half. Each garden is approximately 100 m2. Designed for 16 children aged one and a half to seven years. Luckily there are neighbors. They are here, but we do not disturb them because there is no one here before 8.00 and after 19.00. There are no children on Saturday and Sunday. We do not violate Moscow’s laws of silence. And four days ago a local police officer came to us. He said there were objections that it was an illegal kindergarten. We showed him all the documents. We have a five-year long-term contract, the owner knows it, everything is written in the contract. They showed that all our employees are registered and have health certificates. All teachers are trained. We have a service contract for each child, which every parent of sound mind and memory signs. There are photocopies of the birth certificate and the parents’ passports. We gave all this to the district police officer. They wrote him an explanatory letter, and he left happy,” Sorokin said.
A day later, staff from PDN’s children’s affairs unit visited the private kindergarten. The garden management gave them the same documents that they showed to the district police officer.
“But they didn’t stop there. We had nine children at that time, and they met with their parents. All the parents made a statement and said, yes, we go to this kindergarten, we pay money, we love the attention to the child’s health, the wonderful environment here and the individual approach. This much. We are happy; Another exam passed. However, two days have passed and today the children are getting ready for a walk, the teacher opens the door, and at that moment a guard group of eight people, led by the police lieutenant colonel, enters the apartment. We have never experienced anything like this, where a police lieutenant colonel and two inspectors burst into our room. And aggressively. They stayed at the kindergarten from 11 a.m. and kept the children there,” said the president of Smile Fish.
According to Sorokin, after reviewing all the documents related to the kindergarten, the police officers said that “it did not suit them” and then “they took out all the children and loaded them into the police booth”.
“Naturally, not all these cars had child seats. The youngest daughter is one year and eight months old, and the oldest child is five and a half years old. There were two and three year old children. Only seven people. They were taken to police station No. 100. My family and I picked up the last child from the police at exactly 17:00. We gathered our employees at 18.00. And all this time they sat hungry, sleepless and without rest. The children came out in tears. Moreover, after all this circus, no accusations were brought against us, no administrative cases were filed. They did not show a single official document or a single court decision regarding the audit. When they handed over the children and released us, they gave us nothing; neither fine nor violation. This was completely arbitrary. We don’t have a single document. I believe this is just child abduction. They acted very aggressively and put psychological and moral pressure on each child,” Sorokin said.
The kindergarten management promised to provide psychological support to parents and children. Additionally, a collective complaint petition to law enforcement authorities is also being prepared.
