Researchers from the State University of Navarra (Spain), as part of a scientific team, found that unsweetened coffee promotes weight loss. This drink accelerates metabolism and stimulates the sympathetic nervous system. In this respect reports NewsMedical.
Approximately 155 thousand coffee lovers participated in the research. All participants completed questionnaires providing information about their eating habits, weight, and health status. Researchers analyzed caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee consumption levels, as well as whether participants added sugar, creamer or sweeteners to the drink.
It turned out that after four years, participants who regularly drank coffee with a teaspoon of sugar gained 0.09 kg. Those who added milk or cream to the drink retained their previous weight. Subjects who drank a cup of unsweetened, milkless coffee every day lost an average of 0.12 kg over 4 years.
Most likely, this result is due to coffee’s ability to increase the number of calories burned by speeding up the metabolism. In addition, the drink stimulates the sympathetic nervous system, encouraging the person to move more.
Researchers concluded that increasing consumption of unsweetened, caffeinated or decaffeinated coffee may be effective in weight loss. But coffee with sugar cannot help you get rid of extra pounds.
