Lasa and Zabala, aged 20 and 21 respectively, were abducted in Bayonne (France) on October 15, 1983. Three months later, in a statement sent to Radio Alicante, it was announced that both had been killed by the GAL. The fact that he was unknown gave him credibility.

Enrique Dorado and Felipe Bayo, the civilian guards of the Intxaurrondo barracks, were also sentenced to 67 years and 8 months in prison as materially responsible for the crime.

On July 25, 2001, the Supreme Court increased the prison sentences given to the five convicts by four years, considering that they had exceeded their duties by unlawfully detaining Lasa and Zabala.

Rodríguez Galindo was imprisoned for less than five years and was then allowed to serve his sentence outside prison for health reasons.
