this Supreme Court Denmark acquitted the country’s Ministry of Defense this Tuesday “Ill-treatment” and “torture” of about twenty people Iraqi prisoners During the ‘Green Desert’ military operation on Iraqi soil 17 years ago.
The court decided The Danish army did not take such actions against 23 Iraqi civilians during the operation, According to information from the newspaper ‘Extra Bladet’, it took place in November 2004.
Again, A Danish lower court ruled in favor of 18 of the Iraqis who brought the case before the court. Justice from Denmark to get compensation for the “torture” they suffered, as they stated. The court claimed that Denmark was responsible for not having the necessary protection, even though it found no evidence that the prisoners had been beaten.
The plaintiffs, all apprehended near the city of Basra, appealed to the Supreme Court in hopes of acquittal, the Ministry of Defense said. They insist that the Ministry is also responsible for what happened.
Throughout the case, the Ministry insisted on its importance and If the Supreme Court does not overturn the previous decision, it warned of the possible consequences, as described by attorney Peter Biering.
