Etna volcano on the Italian island of Sicily (southern) entered this Monday. a new exuberant phase after the opening of two new mouthsIt remains at low intensity after two weeks of eruption, the Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) reported.
Explosive vents are located on the southeast flank of the volcano, at an altitude of 3,250 meters and 2,800 meters above sea level. According to INGV, this Sunday’s observations detected an increase in the volcano’s tremors, which remained at high intensity but without the ash and lava ejection affecting the activity of Catania International Airport.
Lava flow from new mouths moves towards the Valle del Bove area, whose fronts are about 2,100 metersWhile lava flows in the other two mouths formed on May 12 and 20, it continues with the largest fronts advancing on the northwest face of the volcano.
The center of the tremor source is in the southeast crater region, at an altitude of about 3,000 meters above sea level.
The Italian Civil Protection has put the yellow alert on due to the discontinuous lava and ash spreads and recent activity of the volcano, which has been going on for over a year since February 10, 2021.
As reported by INGV last August, Recent eruptions in the southeast crater have caused Etna to increase its altitude by 33 meters and now its new peak is 3,357 meters above sea level.
Since 1980, the northeastern crater has been considered the highest of Sicily volcano at 3,324 meters, reaching a maximum height of 3,350 meters in 1981 before its rims were eroded.
