A blogger in Malaysia was jailed for eating pork on camera, he writes Independent. The woman will spend two years behind bars.
According to media reports, Lina Lutfiawati posted a video on social networks in which she eats fried pork and pronounces the traditional Islamic parting word “bismillah”, which means “in the name of God” in Arabic. After Malaysian authorities learned about this video, the woman was brought to justice.
Lina, who converted to Islam in September, was sentenced to two years in prison. The court found him guilty of “disseminating information intended to incite hatred against religious individuals and certain groups.”
Additionally, the blogger must pay a fine of $16,000, failing which his prison sentence will be extended by three months.
“I know I was wrong, but I didn’t expect such a severe punishment,” Lina said.
