Lawyers described the work on the release of Russian sailors from Greek prisons

Lawyers at the international conference “Legal and social problems of the migration crisis. International experience”, talked about the work on the release of Russian sailors from Greek prisons, where they were imprisoned on charges of transporting illegal immigrants, reports TASS.

“I increased the number of cases of Russian sailors to 20. These people came from Krasnodar, Vladivostok, Kaliningrad and other parts of Russia through advertisements on social networks, where they were promised easy jobs in Turkey by sailboats to transport sailboats to Greece and Italy. . Almost all of the seafarers were convicted in Greek courts of first instance for crimes related to the transport of migrants,” said lawyer Konstantinos Dedes.

He noted that the actions of the arrested Russians could not be characterized as smuggling – according to the lawyer, the Russian sailors worked under the compulsion of a criminal network.

“They came to get a good salary and to learn the maritime trade as promised in the advertisements. The owners of the ships that brought immigrants to Greece are actually ghosts, we never learned who they were. In any case, there is nothing about the ship owners. And Russians from 22 to 30 years old were used by a criminal group from the countries of the former USSR, Turkey and Greece, and these people do not appear in any cases, ”says Dedes.

Russian sailors face up to 15-25 years in prison.

Previously, it was learned that Russian Viktor Bout and Roman Seleznev, who were imprisoned in American prisons, did not receive medical help.
