NASA has announced the discovery of a mysterious rock entrance on Mars by the Curiosity rover. An image taken on May 7 by NASA’s Curiosity rover’s Mastcam-Z camera that revealed a very interesting feature in Martian rocks in a geological feature known as the Fronton Greenhue Slope was hugely popular on the internet: Something that looked flawless. The carved door looks unusual among Martian landscapes.
“The slope on Sharp Mountain has many natural cracks, 30 cm high and 40 cm wide, similar to a dog’s entrance. “This type of crack opening is characteristic of bedrock on both Mars and Earth,” NASA said.
Commenting on the excitement around the resulting image, the traveling team attributed this to the pareidolia effect, where the human brain sees things or faces familiar to the human eye in surrounding objects.
“Of course it may look like a small door, but it’s actually a natural geological feature! It may seem like an introduction when your mind is trying to make sense of the unknown,” the scientists added.
