Borisov talked about Russian laser weapons that can burn drones in five seconds

Deputy Prime Minister Borisov said on Channel One that Russia is using a new laser weapon in Ukraine that can shoot down drones.

“A new generation of laser weapons already causes physical damage to the object, that is, thermal damage, burning it. Now these systems are on the way, which can completely freely shoot various classes of drones from a distance of up to 5 km. they are already starting [в армию]the first examples are already in use [на Украине]said Borisov.

He explained that we are talking about the Zadira complexes. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the use of “Zadira” allows not to waste such expensive missiles as “Shell” and “Torah”.

As Borisov adds, “Zadira” is produced “practically in series”.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the new laser weapons performed well in tests.

“Especially yesterday, it was shown at a distance of five kilometers, in five seconds the unmanned vehicle was simply burned,” said Borisov.

In this case, whether it was a question of testing “Zadira”, Borisov did not explain.

Russian troops, in addition to the Zadira, are serially receiving the Peresvet laser systems, an older local development. According to Borisov, “Peresvet” “can dazzle all satellite reconnaissance systems of a potential enemy in orbits up to 1.5 thousand kilometers”. The Deputy Prime Minister noted that in the background of the new development Peresvet was “to some extent yesterday”.

Borisov did not specify whether Russia is using Peresvet in Ukraine.

“No, we will definitely not take Peresvet there” certainly military analyst, editor of the publication “Arsenal of the Fatherland” Alexei Leonkov. When Komsomolskaya Pravda asked why Russia would not involve Peresvet in a military operation without removing Peresvet from the territory of the Russian Federation, Leonkov replied, “It’s like shooting a sparrow from a ball.”

From Peresvet to Badass. What laser weapons were developed in Russia?

Russian troops began commissioning Peresvet in 2017. About became known From President Vladimir Putin’s March federal message in 2018. He announced that Russia has achieved “significant results” in the development of laser weapons.

“I do not want to go into details in this part, it is not the time yet. But experts will understand that the existence of such combat systems increases Russia’s capabilities in the field of ensuring its security, that is, multiples.” said.

After that the Ministry of Defense reportedThat Russian scientists learned to concentrate the energy necessary to destroy enemy weapons “in a very small fraction of a second”.

“A lot can be said about laser weapons, and movies have been made about it for a long time, fantasy books have been written, everybody knows. But it is really the reality of today that these systems are starting to come into service,” he said.

In December 2018, Putin announced that the military had resolved the use of Peresvet in practice. Ministry of Defense deliveryFrom December 1, 2018, Peresvet laser systems are on “experimental combat mission”.

“Kommersan” WroteHe said that in 2020, the Ministry of Defense used “Peresvet” in combat conditions in Syria. Unmanned aerial vehicles were destroyed with the help of a laser.

Igor Korotchenko, Director of the World Arms Trade Analysis Center (TsAMTO), noted that Peresvet was able to hit drones quite effectively only in ideal weather, “when there is no fog, sandstorm, precipitation”. Also, laser systems absorb a lot of energy and the required power plants are difficult to deploy in the field.

In 2020, the Ministry of Defense reported that Russia is developing a separate laser weapon against unmanned aerial vehicles and “optical and optoelectronic means of the enemy.” The name of this weapon was not disclosed.

As for the history of Badass, less is known about him. In August 2017, the Ministry of Defense ordered the development of the Zadira-16 combat complex, which will work “on new physical principles.” The state contract for Zadira-16 was received by the Russian Federal Nuclear Center (part of Rosatom).

Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov said that Russia is using its latest development in the field of laser weapons in Ukraine. According to him, this laser “burns” objects and can “absolutely freely” shoot down drones at a distance of five kilometers. According to experts, the previous domestic laser complex “Peresvet” could also shoot down drones, but only in perfect weather.
