The Massachusetts health department ran the first tests Tuesday to detect the disease, and later the government’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, for English acronym) confirmed it was monkeypox.
Monkeypox symptoms include: similar to smallpox that has already been eradicatedAlthough slightly milder – fever, headache, muscle pain, backache, chills and tiredness – and there is swelling of the glands and a skin rash that usually starts on the face and spreads to other parts of the body, primarily the hands and feet.
This is the first case of monkeypox detected in the US this year. The states of Texas and Maryland each reported one case in 2021 of patients who had recently traveled to Nigeria.
