“This isn’t about Russia versus the United States,” the Pentagon says.
The US Department of Defense confirmed on Tuesday that the war in Ukraine has nothing to do with rivalry between his country and Russia, and therefore Washington is making efforts to have Kiev defend itself.
“It’s not about the United States or Russia, as Mr. (Vladimir) Putin would have liked, it’s about the West and Russia, NATO and Russia… It’s about Russia and the Ukrainian people,” he said. Pentagon spokesman John Kirby at a press conference.
That’s why Kirby explained that his country is focused on helping to end this war, as well as helping Ukraine defend itself and “have an advantageous position on the battlefield and at the negotiating table”.
In response to a question about whether you would describe this conflict as a proxy war waged in a third country between two powers – the United States. and Russia – where Washington supports one of the parties, in this case Ukraine, Kirby replied with a resounding “no”.
