Poland blocks Russian embassy accounts under the guise of ‘terrorist financing’
Poland blocked the accounts of the Russian embassy in Warsaw under the guise of “terrorist financing”. This was stated by the Russian ambassador to Poland Sergei Andreev, reports RIA Novosti.
“I have raised the issue that our accounts have been blocked since the end of February. Moreover – I have not spoken about this before, but I will add a curious detail – the accounts were blocked first by a decision of the Ministry of Finance and then by the decision of the Polish prosecutor on the grounds that the funds of these our accounts could be used to launder illegally obtained funds or to finance terrorism,” the diplomat said.
Andreev called the charges against the diplomatic mission absurd. He pointed out that the move by the Polish authorities is contrary to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
Earlier, the Polish government decided to expel 45 Russians from the country on March 23. The note on the expulsion of the staff of the Russian diplomatic mission was personally handed over to Andreev by the Polish authorities, he himself was not on the list. It is noted that Russian diplomats are expected to be expelled for activities that, in the opinion of the official Warsaw, do not correspond to their diplomatic status. They are suspected of espionage.
Andreev said the expulsion of Russian diplomats from Warsaw would lead to the de facto destruction of his diplomatic relations with Moscow.
