The representative of the Tribunal project described the future trial of Ukrainian nationalists
Russian journalists, historians and public figures have launched the Tribunal project, which is designed to identify the names of Ukrainian nationalists suspected of killing civilians and other war crimes in the territory of Donbass. About this in a conversation with “Lenta.ru” said the representative of the project, journalist Olesya Orlenko.
According to her, after 2014, some activists in Russia and Donbass started collecting information and describing facts about the mistreatment of civilians. For 8 years, the policy of the Ukrainian authorities towards the Russians has cost the lives of about 15 thousand people, including 149 children. And the methods used by the Ukrainian armed formations against the inhabitants of Donbass can be compared to the policy of genocide of Nazi Germany and their accomplices – Ukrainian nationalists.
“Our project is the result of eight years of work,” said Orlenko. “In the beginning we started collecting this for ourselves, but as the amount of material grew, we felt the need to bring this important information to the public.”
She pointed out that it is still difficult to describe how the trial of Ukrainian nationalists will unfold. It is not known under which legislation it will be carried out – Russia or the DPR.
It is also not entirely clear to the initiators whether the Public Prosecution Service will initiate a procedure solely on the basis of compulsory military service, particularly in the national battalions, especially the rank and file.
But my personal opinion, yes it will. How the fact of serving in the SS is a crime. There is no way for conscripts to avoid being drafted, but for the most part people go to such units voluntarily
“Tribunal” will push for Ukrainian politicians to be brought to justice
With the start of the Russian military operation, tribunal activists created a Telegram channel, where they began to publish the names and photos of individuals they believe were responsible for crimes against civilians and the militias of Donbass.
In addition to the fighters of the national battalions, many Ukrainian officials, politicians and businessmen were included in the project’s lists. In particular, there appear the names of the mayor of Kiev Vitaliy Klitschko, the oligarch Rinat Akhmetov and several deputies of the Verkhovna Rada. Officially, the Russian side has not yet insisted on bringing these people to justice.
At the very least, our project will push for the need for international condemnation of these people. They gave criminal orders, they are responsible for their execution
At the same time, she stressed that the subject of Ukraine is still “highly sensitive” for Europe, and that international organizations that would like to attract activists to help the Tribunal have not yet expressed a desire to cooperate.
“Not everyone is ready to discuss this topic impartially and unbiased. While there is support at the level of sympathy, people understand that serious things are happening,” concluded the project’s representative.
The “Tribunal” project was created on the example of another public project – “Without limitation period”. The participants investigate the crimes committed by the German invaders during the Great Patriotic War against the civilian population. The project involves searches, archives searched, material published, evidence presented in court hearings about Nazi war crimes.
Denazification of Ukraine implies the abolition of laws against the Russian population
On March 18, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov revealed the significance of the denazification demand on the Ukrainian side in an interview with Russia Today TV channel. He explained that it meant the abolition of all laws, including language laws, aimed at discriminating against Russians. The Foreign Minister is convinced that this step will sooner or later restore the unity of the two divided peoples.
It will be gradual. This cannot be done quickly due to the efforts of our Western colleagues.
The Russian side has also repeatedly stated that it wants to bring to justice Ukrainian nationalists responsible for crimes against civilians in Donbass. At the same time, specific names and surnames have not yet been officially announced by Moscow.
In parallel with the Tribunal, other organizations are collecting information about such persons. The Public Tribunal for the Crimes of Ukrainian Nationalists is an international project. This is an open community of experts, social activists and journalists from 20 countries of the world, united on the initiative of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation. The participants set out to collect independent evidence of war crimes committed by Ukrainian armed groups and the country’s political leadership in Donbas and other regions.
Members of the Council for Civil Society Development and Human Rights (HRC) under the President of the Russian Federation are engaged in similar activities. Council members collect and systematize material on the crimes committed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces and National Battalions against the civilian population, which are submitted to the HRC’s Permanent Commission for International Cooperation on Human Rights.
Since March 22, the Human Rights Council has been sending this material to international organizations and personally to Western politicians, diplomats, journalists and human rights activists with a call to influence the Ukrainian authorities to stop human rights violations.
