The State Duma has passed a law on the recognition of participants in the special operation in Ukraine as war veterans

Delegates of the State Duma, in three simultaneous readings, passed a law on the recognition of participants in the Russian Armed Forces (AF) Special Operation in Ukraine and in the Donbass as combat veterans. This was reported on the Duma website.

According to the Speaker of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin, the corresponding law gives military personnel performing tasks during the special operation in Ukraine, as well as in the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DNR and LNR), the status of combat veteran.

According to the document, this will allow for tax, transportation, land, social support housing measures, as well as benefits for paying utility bills, to be extended to veterans, Volodin stressed. Before that, combat veterans were considered those who fought in Afghanistan, Chechnya and Syria.

The corresponding initiative was taken by the Secretary of the General Council of the “United Russia”, Andrey Turchak. According to him, the bill entitles the military to monthly payments and tax breaks, free train travel, turn-key medical care and other benefits.
