“The product has a porous structure and a rough surface, which helps to ensure optimal bone integration over the entire surface of the implant. After the installation of the cage at the rehabilitation stage, the pores are filled with collagen fibers, ”says DSTU professor Valeriy Varavka.
Such implants or cages are especially indicated for installation in severe spinal fractures, complex operations in this area and in case of pathological wear of the intervertebral discs. To attach the cage, the surgeon needs an instrument with an extended shaft. Its handle has a device that allows you to “push” the implants into the space between the vertebrae.
During development, the authors empirically calculated the allowable load for the cage when operating at compression and other loads to avoid the appearance of a fatigue crack. The devices have passed technical and toxicological tests, and their mass production is planned to be expanded in the near future.
