The US Federal Communications Commission has filed documents with a test launch plan for Jackal (“Jackal”), two reconnaissance satellites designed to conduct military operations from space. The post writes about it wired.
The material says two orbital tracking spacecraft will be launched into low earth orbit. While the satellites will not be equipped with guns, warheads and laser explosives, they will be launched with a SpaceX rocket.
During the test run, the devices will follow each other within a radius of several hundred meters from each other. The satellites will be equipped with thrusters, radars and multispectral cameras. If the training mission in space is successful, thousands of such devices will be supplied to the US Army.
