On Mars, part of the relief reminiscent of a bear’s face was photographed. About informs University of Arizona.
The picture was taken by the MRO apparatus from an altitude of 250 kilometers using the HiRise camera. The observed structure has a diameter of about two kilometers, similar to a bear’s head drawn by a child. The object is located at the coordinates of 41.629° south latitude and 206.988° east longitude.
Astronomers have explained the nature of the details of the image. The “nose” of the beast consists of a crest, the “nostrils” and the gap “mouth” consist of a V-shaped pit. The “eyes” are two meteorite craters, and the contour of the “head” is associated with a circular fault caused by sediment deposited on top of a hidden large impact crater.
At the same time, the play of light and shadow gives the object the appearance of a bear, and if the device took a photo at a different time of day, the human brain may not be able to see the animal features in the photo.
