Newspaper Guard Disputes arose because some scientists at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) did not want to cite their Russian colleagues as co-authors of their scientific papers.
The publication notes that many articles are published each year on experiments at the Large Hadron Collider, but not a single study has been published after March 2022. This is because CERN experts do not know how to indicate the authorship of Russian and Belarusian scientists, who make up about 7% of the team, and whether it is worth it.
CERN has made a compromise decision and is not yet publishing articles that have already been written. At the same time, articles are still being written and sent for review. According to the newspaper, there are currently 70 articles in this situation. It has been previously published on the arXiv server, but the authors and funders of the study are not listed.
28 November 2022 at CERN stoped Operation of the Large Hadron Collider. This was done two weeks before the originally selected date to save energy due to the risk of outages.
The Large Hadron Collider is an accelerator of charged particles, protons and heavy ions. It was created to conduct experiments in the field of high energy physics, to discover new elementary particles and new types of interactions. With 6.5 TeV pulse energy and 180 MW energy consumption, it is the most powerful accelerator in the world. It consumes about 10% of the total annual energy consumption of the Canton of Geneva.
