Although most bank customers use ATMs on a daily basis to process transactions, it is true that there are some doubts about how ATMs work. therefore, Bank of Spain has issued three warnings that every customer should know before using these machines.
Withdrawal commissions
One of the most recurring suspicions of a bank’s customers is the commissions the business can charge them. As stated by the Bank of Spain, the bank that owns the ATM may charge for this, but the customer must always be notified of the amount before confirming any transaction.
What to do if the ATM ‘swallows’ the card?
Another question some customers may encounter when using an ATM is how to behave if the machine holds the card. In such cases, the user must notify the business and block the card before leaving the ATM, as recommended by the Bank of Spain. Likewise, it is recommended to review all activity on the account to ensure that there is no fraudulent activity.
Do you use the ATM out of necessity?
The Bank of Spain also took the opportunity to confirm that an institution cannot force a customer to use their ATM. However, since some banks provide cashier services only through ATMs, they state that the information in question should be included in the account agreement in detail.
