Andriy Gerasimenko, one of the center’s patients, told the TV channel that he suffered psychological trauma while hiding in the trenches in the suburbs of Kiev and that many bombs exploded next to him.
“I don’t even know how I felt when the bombs exploded, but I realized that I couldn’t fulfill my duties. I knew there was something wrong with my body, ”said the Ukrainian fighter.
According to the channel, Gerasimenko was diagnosed with an “anxiety disorder” and was sent to rehab. Now he’s back to the front.
In Lesnaya Polyana, a total of about 220 people, mostly soldiers, are being treated. Every week, 5-7 more people come to the center.
Neurologist Ksenia Vosnitsyna, director of the center, said that patients suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, feelings of helplessness and survivors’ guilt.
He also reported that many Ukrainian soldiers have post-concussion syndrome, which is caused by a sudden drop in pressure from an explosion that caused a head injury.
