‘The Archimedes’, a Dutch research company specializing in renewable energy, LIAM F1 UWT. They are a new generation of wind turbines for domestic use that produce much more energy than existing ones and make almost no noise.. Undoubtedly, a new evolution in the world of renewable energies and especially wind turbines.
The first thing that catches your eye reduced visual impact. It was originally created to be attached to the roofs of buildings. Its dimensions are therefore modest and 1.5 meters in diameter and weighing not more than 100 kilograms. It produces an average of 1,500 kilowatt-hours of energy per year with a wind speed of 5 m/s.
The design is based on a rotor that captures the kinetic energy of the wind to convert it into mechanical energy. Thanks to its screw shape, Liam will always automatically indicate the optimal wind position, just like a pennant, and therefore have maximum performance.
As the company explains, the rotor blades are made from flat blades, making very little noise (<45dB) and in both computer simulations and wind tunnels, An efficiency of 52% was measured with a maximum peak of 59%. But despite the friction of the bearings and the blocking of the frame, this rotor can get 88% of its energy from the wind.
It is possible to achieve with such wind turbines Annual production of 300 to 2,500 kilowatts, which is about half of the energy consumed by an average homeof course depending on the wind speed and the altitude at which it is placed.
Combined with solar panels, a home can meet all its energy needs.especially with new energy storage systems coming soon.
“When there is wind, the energy produced by the turbine is used, and when there is sun, solar cells are used to generate energy,” explains Engineer Richard Ruijtenbeek of The Archimedes.
