Xiaomi has unveiled a newer version of its CyberDog 2 robot dog, showcasing sharper intelligence, greater agility, and a more pet-like presence—accented by two ears on its head that bring a friendly, lifelike expression. This update comes through reporting from the Gizmochina portal.
The CyberDog 2 draws design inspiration from the Doberman breed. Weighing in at 8.9 kg, the robotic companion can reach speeds up to 1.6 m/s and is capable of a range of impressive tricks, including backflips. It is designed to recover from a fall and stand up on its own, highlighting its balance and resilience.
Equipped with a diverse sensor suite, the robot carries an RGB camera, a 13 MP interactive AI-powered camera, four ToF sensors, LiDAR, a scene depth camera, and an ultrasonic sensor among others. It can recognize faces, identify its owner and strangers alike, follow its user, and respond to voice instructions with a responsive, context-aware AI system.
Performance is driven by an NX Processor complemented by two coprocessors, delivering high-end capabilities around 21 tops. The platform supports open-source programming, inviting developers to craft and deploy their own applications for CyberDog 2, expanding its potential uses beyond factory presets.
In China, CyberDog 2 is priced at 13,000 yuan, which some observers regard as a reasonable entry point for a high-tech robotic pet. By contrast, the well-known Boston Dynamics Spot has been listed at roughly $74,500, illustrating a wide disparity in pricing within the same market segment.
Earlier in its product line, Xiaomi released a large tablet priced around 50,000 rubles, underscoring the company’s broader consumer hardware strategy that integrates mobile, robotic, and smart-device ecosystems.
