A new WhatsApp application for macOS has arrived, bringing group calling capabilities to Apple computers. The update was announced on the messenger developers blog.
The macOS version mirrors the Windows client released earlier in the year, delivering group video and audio calls to macOS users for the first time. Up to eight participants can join a video call, while as many as 32 attendees can participate in voice calls.
Users can join ongoing group calls, review past call activity, and receive incoming call notifications even if the app is not currently open after a call starts, according to the developer notes.
In addition to functionality, the design has been refreshed to align with macOS aesthetics, making the app feel familiar to Apple users. Other enhancements include drag-and-drop file sending within chats and access to a more detailed chat history for conversations.
The new WhatsApp app for Apple computers is available for download from the official messenger website and is expected to reach the Mac App Store soon, as noted by the developers.
Earlier reports mentioned that WhatsApp would introduce a feature to shield users’ IP addresses during communication .
