American company Meta (considered an extremist organization) has signed a deal with developer Qualcomm to create custom chips for its next-generation Quest series of VR headsets. As a transmission Reuterscompanies announced this at the IFA fair in Berlin.
It was noted that experts from Mark Zuckerberg’s company will work with Qualcomm on the project. It is planned to create new chipsets on the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR platform. The agency added that despite Meta’s desire to increase independence in hardware development, it has decided to sign a deal with a longtime Apple partner.
Zuckerberg said the developments will help develop the metaverse project. According to him, the metadata warehouse is still in its early stages of development, and over time it is necessary to simplify VR gadgets in order to use them more actively.
Meta has relied on off-the-shelf Qualcomm chipsets for years to build its own VR devices, including the Quest 2. Financial terms of the new deal have not yet been disclosed.
Formerly Meta said It’s about success in developing an artificial intelligence system that will read people’s thoughts, that is, decipher brain activity and translate it into speech.
