The US authorities have imposed a number of restrictions on the supply of modern chips to Russia and China, which are used in artificial intelligence (AI) systems and supercomputers. More precisely, we are talking about NVIDIA and AMD graphics chips. They were originally created for displaying images and games, but are now used for other things.

Supercomputers based on such chips are used for facial recognition, speech, data collection, and so on. In the United States, they want to limit the use of modern semiconductor products for military purposes for Moscow and Beijing.

It’s not clear yet if this will hit purely game cards, as they could also be used to create math accelerators for AI. At the same time, NVIDIA has already stated that the new measures have affected their business as the company has many customers in China. But AMD said its work was not affected by the restrictions.
