Russians are showing more and more interest in retro set-top boxes – demand for Dendy, Sega and other game consoles increased by 58% in June compared to the same period last year. reported “News” referring to the press service of Ozon.
M.Video-Eldorado also saw an increase in sales of “legacy” set-top boxes – 9% more frequently purchased in the first half of 2022 than last year.
“The interest in retro set-top boxes has shown positive dynamics, taking into account the limitations in the supply of modern consoles. They are most often bought for nostalgia for childhood hits or as the first gaming device for a child, ”said the representative of the press service of the retailer.
Wildberries also confirmed a growing interest in retro consoles – EasyGame and Dendy were named the most popular brands in this market.
Experts interviewed by Izvestia attribute the increase in demand to the scarcity of modern consoles on the market and the difficulty of buying games for them, as well as a sense of “childhood” nostalgia.
“Now this childhood piece can be used for money. And people interested in set-top boxes have long reached the age where they can afford a retro set-top box. Well, the quality of the product is quite good – they easily connect to modern TVs and do not particularly malfunction, ”says Yaroslav Meshalkin, strategic communications director of ESforce Holding.
