Apple has updated its developer guidelines to allow PC emulators to run games. reports Apple Insider portal.
According to the source, Apple has made changes to the document that regulates game streaming and game emulators. Retro console and PC emulator apps can now officially offer the ability to download games directly from the app. Apps are also required to be notarized in order to be included in third-party app stores in the EU, such as AltStore PAL.
In July, the first official PC emulator for iPhone and iPad, called UTM SE, supporting x86, PPC, and RISC-V emulation, appeared on the App Store. The app lets you run off-the-shelf machines or create your own configurations, running older operating systems like Windows XP.
Previously, Apple allowed the release of retro console emulators on the App Store, thanks to which Apple gadget users could officially launch games from older platforms such as SNES, PlayStation, and PSP on their devices.
