How to download data from Instagram

Before deleting your account, Instagram (the company that owns Meta is recognized as extremist in Russia and is banned) will offer you to download data from it. This can be done in two ways: through the browser version of the social network or through the mobile application. After deleting your account, you will no longer be able to upload photos and videos.

To download data from Instagram via the application, you must do the following:

  1. Tap on your profile photo and then tap on the three bars in the upper left corner of the screen.
  2. Click on “Account Center” in the top bar.
  3. Scroll down a bit and go to the “Your Information and Permissions” section. Then select the “Download your information” option and click the “Download or transfer information” button on the new page.
  4. You can then choose which files you want to save to your device. The social network offers two options: download all available information (photos, videos, comments, likes, etc.) and download only selected data (for example, only photos from your account). By default, Instagram saves all your account information.
  5. Choose the format and method of saving data: download to your device or save to cloud storage – Google Drive or Dropbox.
  6. If you want to save data to cloud storage, enter your email address and you will receive a download link. You can download files from there within four days – in this case, the link will stop working. To save data to Google Drive or Dropbox cloud storage, you need to specify the account you used for this storage. The files will be uploaded there automatically.
  7. Files can be saved to the device in HTML and JSON formats, and you can also choose the quality of the media files: high, medium, or low. You will need about 2.5 GB of free memory for storage.

Once you have chosen what data to save and where to upload it, Instagram will start preparing to copy. It usually takes up to 48 hours, but can also take up to a month.

The same can be done in a browser on a phone or via a mobile app:

  1. Tap your profile icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen, then tap the three bars in the top corner of the screen. Go to Settings.
  2. Open the Account Center from the top bar.
  3. Also, the algorithm is the same as the one used when sending requests from the computer.

How to temporarily delete your Instagram account?

You can temporarily delete your page on a social network – this option is suitable if you want to take a break from maintaining your account, but do not want to completely lose access to your profile in the future.

A temporarily deleted account will not be visible to other Instagram users. You can restore it at any time, no matter how much time has passed since the deletion. You can temporarily delete your account up to once a week.

How to freeze an account via computer

To deactivate a profile from a computer, you need to use the browser version of the social network.

After visiting the site, you need to follow several steps:

  1. Using your browser, log in to the account you want to temporarily delete.
  2. Go to the “Account Center” – this is a special section for managing connected accounts. To access the Account Center, click on “More” in the lower left corner of the main screen. Select “Settings”. The settings menu will open. On the left side of the screen you will see the word “Account Center” – click on it.
  3. Once you’ve navigated to the “Account Center” you’ll need to go to the section for deleting and deactivating accounts. To do this, select the “Personal Information” option on the left side of the screen. A menu will open where you’ll need to select the “Account Ownership and Management” option.
  4. In the window that opens, click “Disable or Delete”.
  5. If you have more than one linked account, you’ll be asked to select the account you want to delete at this point. Click on the account you want. Then choose one of two options: “Deactivate your account” or “Delete your account.”
  6. To temporarily delete, select “Deactivate Account.” Check the box next to it and click Continue.
  7. Enter your account password and provide the reason for deactivation. Then click “Deactivate account”.

After this, your account will be frozen until you want to return.

How to delete Instagram account permanently?

You can completely delete your social media account. This is a radical option for those who are absolutely sure that the profile will no longer be needed. In this case, your account, all your photos, videos, comments, likes and subscribers will be lost irretrievably.

Permanently deleting an account is done in the same way as temporary – all steps with screenshots for computers and smartphones are given above. You need to go to the “Account Center” and find the “Account Ownership and Management” section.

The only difference from temporary deletion
You should end up selecting “Delete your account” and not “Deactivate your account”.

The account will be deleted 30 days after the request is submitted. It may take up to 90 days for all information to be completely deleted. Accordingly Privacy Policy Instagram may store data from deleted social media accounts on its servers.

Once the account is deleted, the profile name can be reused to register a new account.
