The Russian groups that watch the most TV series and movies on the internet were ranked

The total time spent by Russians watching movies and series online in the first half of 2024 increased by 45% compared to the first half of 2023. socialbites.ca learned about this from a report by MegaFon.

In the series category, Russians preferred dramas. This is largely due to the popularity of the series “The Boy’s Word”. The phrase “Blood on the asphalt” continued to gain traction in 2024. Comedy and melodrama series are also in high demand. The three fastest growing genres are drama (+64%), family (+62%) and action (+50%).

Russians, who prefer comedy among movies, saw a 28% increase in the number of movies watched in this category compared to the previous year. However, the biggest growth was seen in science fiction (+91%), historical cinema (+42%) and family cinema (+34%).

Currently, about 70% of gigabytes spent on online cinemas are consumed by Russians aged 25-44, and 38% by viewers aged 35-44.

Russians showed the most interest in movies and TV series during the New Year holiday in January, and the least visits to video services in May. Viewers mostly prefer to watch online content after 6pm, and the most popular day to watch movies is Sunday.

Residents of Moscow and the Krasnodar Territory are most actively watching the content of online cinemas – these two regions account for half of the total Internet traffic in this segment. The top 5 regions also include: St. Petersburg, Rostov and Samara regions.
