The base version of the iPad Pro M4 actually has 12GB of RAM instead of the advertised 8GB. Apple specifically disables “extra” memory, reports Tom’s Hardware portal.

The unusual discovery was made known from a video showing the device being disassembled. Therefore, experts paid attention to the labeling of RAM chips and instead of the stated 8 GB for the basic version, they found two soldered Micron chips with 48 GB each (6 GB each). Thus, the basic versions of the iPad Pro have 12 GB of RAM. Moreover, the more expensive iPad Pro models with 16 GB of RAM do not have such problems – the declared amount of memory coincides with the real one.

It is unknown why Apple allocated less real memory for user needs in the new tablet. It is assumed that the company initially planned to provide younger models with 12 GB of RAM, but then decided that in this case the difference between the younger and older versions would be insignificant. It’s also possible that Micron doesn’t have enough 4GB chips. But it seems impossible to unlock the amount of memory hidden from users.
