Sales of Apple smartphones in China decreased by almost a fifth in the first quarter of 2024. In this respect says in a quarterly report from analytics firm Counterpoint Research.
While iPhone sales in the Chinese market decreased by 19.1%, Apple’s share decreased from 19.7% to 15.7%. The American brand was followed by Oppo and Vivo, which showed sales declines of 15.5% and 0.4% respectively.
The biggest growth in the first quarter of 2024 was seen by Huawei with 69.7%. Moreover, this data is provided before the launch of the flagship Huawei Pura 70 series, which is apparently popular in its homeland. Honor (11.5%) and Xiaomi (8.6%) also showed positive sales dynamics.
Counterpoint Research deputy director Ethan Qi emphasized that the Chinese smartphone market is recovering and pointed out that sales increased by 4.6% compared to the last quarter of 2023. He stated that this was due to discounts during Chinese New Year celebrations.
Senior analyst Mengmeng Zhang stated that Chinese brands have strengthened their positions thanks to new budget-friendly products that are popular among migrant workers returning home for holidays.
