Google will shut down Google Podcasts in the US next week. In this respect reports Bleeping Computer edition. After closure, the ability to listen to podcasts will remain on YouTube Music.

Google is currently sending out notices to users in the US informing them that they will not be able to use Google Podcasts starting April 2. Before this date, users are advised to transfer their subscriptions from Google Podcasts to YouTube Music.

The Google Podcasts streaming service launched six years ago. The service client has been downloaded more than 500 million times from Google Play since its inception. Google Podcasts not only offered users a wide selection of podcasts, but also allowed them to be downloaded to their devices for later offline listening.

Google said its decision to discontinue Google Podcasts and switch to YouTube was in line with user behavior and preferences. The company’s data shows higher engagement among podcast listeners on YouTube compared to Google Podcasts.

“While YouTube Music provides basic podcast listening functionality, Google Podcast users find it too cumbersome because it lacks search and sorting filters,” Bleeping Computer writes.
