According to the court statement published on March 25, 2024, Spanish National Court Judge Santiago Pedras asked the police to prepare a report on the application and how blocking the application would affect users.
Pedraz had previously decided to block Telegram for up to six months, starting Monday, as part of an investigation into cases of pirated content being shared across multiple channels. According to the case file, the investigation is not directed at the company, but at individual channel owners.
Telegram has approximately 900 million active users and is one of the most popular messaging applications in the world. Its owner, Pavel Durov, lightly moderates the content of the service, which often leads to accusations that the messenger is used for criminal activities and distribution of extremist materials.
