Meta Corporation (recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) has released a new beta version of WhatsApp messenger for Android, which now includes the ability to disable link previews in chats. In this respect reports WABetaInfo (WBI) portal.

The new beta version of WhatsApp for Android has the build number 2.23.21.12. It is already available for download from Google Play, but only for users participating in the WhatsApp beta program.

Examining the latest build of Messenger, WBI discovered that developers have added a new privacy feature to the service: Disable link previews. Allows you to disable link previews in chats.

“Currently, when a user enters a link in the dialog box, WhatsApp automatically downloads a preview of it. The preview usually includes information such as the title of the web page, a brief description, and a thumbnail,” WBI writes.

By allowing you to turn off link previews, WhatsApp provides users with an additional level of privacy. The new feature at least allows users to avoid awkward situations by private messaging in front of someone.

“We believe this additional level of control is consistent with WhatsApp’s commitment to prioritize users’ privacy and security by allowing users to customize their experience based on their personal preferences and concerns,” WBI said.

The feature to disable previews in the public version of WhatsApp is expected to appear in the near future.
