Apple is considering using Baidu’s generative artificial intelligence in its iPhone and other devices for the Chinese market. In this respect reports Bloomberg publication.
Apple has held initial talks about using Baidu’s generative AI technology on its devices, the publication reports, citing anonymous sources familiar with the matter. The US company is looking for a local partner as Chinese regulators tightly police content produced by productive AIs.
Baidu is considered one of the leaders in artificial intelligence in China, where startups and tech giants are investing billions to develop their own ChatGPT counterparts. OpenAI’s groundbreaking creation and similar services abroad are not available in China’s heavily regulated online space.
Baidu isn’t the first AI company Apple has approached recently. Before that, the media had reported that the Cupertino IT giant was also negotiating with OpenAI and Google on the possibility of leasing AI services for future iPhones and iOS.
Additionally, Apple is not the first foreign company to use Baidu’s artificial intelligence in its smartphones for the Chinese market. Before that, Samsung had done the same: The South Korean IT giant replaced Google’s Gemini with Baidu’s solution in its Galaxy S24 series smartphones.
