Police in Winnipeg (Canada) charged former UPS logistics company employee Orville Beltrano with the theft and subsequent resale of various Apple products worth about $ 1.3 million (about 120 million rubles at the exchange rate as of March 21, 2024). In this respect reports MacRumor’s publication.

Beltrano took a job at UPS in 2013. He was initially a warehouse worker, but over time he rose to a managerial position in the branch. The man was only fired on January 22, 2024. During his nearly 10-year tenure, Beltrano stole at least 866 Apple devices from the company’s warehouse.

Beltrano deposited more than $232,000 into bank accounts from September 2023 to January 2024. During searches of his home and car, investigators found $9,000 in cash, an Apple laptop and jewelry worth more than $9,000. Beltrano admitted to stealing Apple products and jewelry from Apple. UPS also stated that it used the money to buy a house worth $680,000 and an Audi hatchback worth $60,000.

The theft came to light after UPS launched an investigation to find out why so many Apple devices were missing from its Winnipeg warehouse in December 2023. Beltrano was recorded on security cameras stealing items from pallets destined for shipment to Ontario. In January 2024 alone, a man stole at least 120 iPhones in a single shift.

Prosecutors asked the court to approve the seizure of Beltrano’s home, as well as his cash, bank accounts and car.
