Apple plans to use Google’s Gemini neural network platform in iOS 18 and future iPhones, rather than its own development. Read about it in your new newsletter, Power On reported famous insider and Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman.
According to Gurman, Apple and Google are already in talks. Apple plans to purchase a license from Google to use Gemini on the iPhone. Additionally, the tipster claims that Apple recently contacted OpenAI, which developed ChatGPT, with a similar request.
Since Apple promised to add neural network functions to iOS 18, but did not have time to prepare its own Ajax platform for release, it decided to turn to third-party AI developers for help. According to Bloomberg sources, the development of the IT giant from Cupertino is much lower in terms of capabilities than its competitors.
Details of the terms of the potential deal were not disclosed. However, Gurman believes that if successful, Apple will mainly use Gemini’s text and image rendering capabilities.
