Apple will allow AirPods Pro wireless headphones to be used as hearing aids with the release of iOS 18. In this respect reports 9to5Mac quotes the new issue of the Power On newsletter from renowned insider and Bloomberg correspondent Mark Gurman.

AirPods already offer the Live Listen feature, which launched with iOS 12 in 2018. This feature essentially turns the iPhone into a directional microphone that transmits audio to the AirPods in real time. In other words, thanks to Live Listening, people with hearing problems can place the iPhone closer to the sound source and hear the sound better through headphones.

In 2021, Apple also introduced Conversation Boost in AirPods Pro, which increases the sensitivity of the headphones’ microphones, allowing users to better hear the people in front of them. Some research suggests that Conversation Boost makes AirPods Pro similar to some medical devices currently intended for the hearing impaired.

Gurman did not say exactly what the new hearing aid mode in iOS 18 will be called or how it will work. However, 9to5Mac believes that the insider’s prediction will most likely come true, as it has correctly predicted Apple’s announcements on more than one occasion.
