The US Department of Justice accused Lingwei Ding, 38, of California, of stealing Google’s trade secrets and then transferring them to Chinese companies. In this respect reports Bloomberg publication.

Ding is a Chinese citizen but lives in Newark, California. He was hired by Google in 2019. While working for an American IT company, he was involved in four cases of theft of trade secrets from supercomputer data centers related to the development of artificial intelligence (AI).

“We believe the defendant stole AI-related trade secrets from Google while secretly working for two China-based companies. “We will vigorously prevent American-made technology from falling into the hands of those who should not have it,” said Attorney General Merrick Garland.

According to the Justice Department, Ding transferred sensitive information from Google’s network to his personal email and cloud accounts while colluding with two Chinese artificial intelligence companies. Ding is alleged to be the co-founder of one of the unidentified companies in China.

Dean was arrested in Newark on March 6, 2024. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 on each count.
