Almost five years after its release, Death Stranding fans have discovered that the game is inspired by the ancient Japanese profession of bokka. In this respect reports GamesRadar portal.
The connection between the main character’s profession, named Sam, and Japanese couriers was revealed when a post appeared on social network X (formerly Twitter) about “probably one of Japan’s strangest professions” called bocca. These are porters who deliver goods to remote mountainous areas inaccessible by transport. They use special wooden ladder structures that allow them to carry loads of 100-165 kg on their backs.
In Death Stranding, Sam Bridges does almost the same thing and carries a lot of different cargo. Players have found connections and drawn parallels between bocca and the game developed by Japanese game designer Hideo Kojima’s Kojima Productions studio. The developers themselves have not yet commented on this situation.
When the game was released in 2019, RuNet users jokingly called it a “courier simulator”; because the player not only had to deliver the cargo from point A to point B, but also had to be balanced while moving so as not to fall and damage the goods.
