Tesla CEO Elon Musk filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman on the grounds that they violated the terms of their non-profit collaboration. Musk claims that OpenAI has shifted its mission to create artificial intelligence (AI) for the public good and begun pursuing commercial goals, particularly by partnering with Microsoft. reports Reuters.
OpenAI was founded as a non-profit organization in 2015 with the goal of developing powerful, open-source artificial intelligence (AGI) that is accessible to everyone and poses no threat to humanity. One of the founding partners of the company was Musk, who left the board of directors in 2018. After OpenAI announced the creation of a commercial division and signed a $1 billion deal with Microsoft, Microsoft gained exclusive access to the OpenAI cloud platform and products.
Elon Musk believes that such steps contradict OpenAI’s original goal and violate the contractual agreement he signed with the company in 2015. His lawsuit alleges several violations by OpenAI and criticizes the company’s board of directors for its lack of technical proficiency and oversight of AGI’s development.
Musk expresses concerns about the possible risks associated with the development of artificial intelligence under the control of a commercial company. He warns this could endanger public safety and the future of AI technology.
