Apple has been considering a number of new wearable devices for the past few years, including a smart ring, AR glasses, and redesigned AirPods with a built-in camera. Read about it in your new newsletter, Power On reported Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman.
A few years ago, Apple’s industrial design team pitched the idea of a smart ring focused on health and fitness features to the company’s healthcare executives, Gurman said. The expert also emphasized that Apple is not currently actively developing a finger-wearable device. Gurman suggested that the ring could be a cheaper alternative to the Apple Watch.
The company is also considering creating a “less ambitious” smart glasses than the Apple Vision Pro that could compete with models like Meta’s Ray-Ban Smart Glasses (recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) and Amazon’s Echo Frames. According to Gurman, Apple discussed creating glasses that could “replace AirPods” with built-in speakers, cameras, health sensors, and artificial intelligence capabilities. The project is in the “technological research” phase within Apple’s hardware development department, which means a release or even an announcement in the near future probably won’t be worth the wait.
Another insider said Apple engineers began exploring the possibility of installing low-resolution cameras in AirPods last year. Such headsets are expected to become compact and autonomous artificial intelligence assistants.
Previously, it ranked first in headphone sales in Russia full Apple’s copies.
