Apple’s Vision Pro mixed reality headset doesn’t support Find My Location tracking, making it difficult to track the iPhone or many of the brand’s other devices if it’s lost or stolen. In this respect reports MacRumor’s publication.
Apple confirmed that the Vision Pro’s location cannot be viewed in the Find My app or on iCloud.com on another company device. Among the Find My features, the headset only supports Activation Lock, which ensures that a thief cannot erase or re-set the headset unless they know the owner’s Apple ID and password.
“While it’s nice to know that a thief can’t easily wipe your Vision Pro and set it up with his own Apple ID, the inability to track the thief’s location in the Find My app is a notable omission for a headset that starts at $3,499. rate as of February 4, 2024),” MacRumors writes.
Many people will use the Vision Pro primarily at home, greatly reducing the risk of the headset being stolen. But Apple encourages use of the Vision Pro on airplanes and other situations away from home. The headset may particularly attract the attention of thieves due to its high price.
It’s unclear why the Vision Pro doesn’t support Find My Location tracking, but this could be due to the headset’s lack of internal battery and GPS.
